How to download a GEDCOM file
- Sign in to your Ancestry.com account.
- Open your tree: Go to the “Trees” tab and select the tree you'd like to export. NOTE: You must be the tree owner to download it, not just an editor. You do not have to have an active paying subscription to access your tree.)
- Access tree settings: Click the More (... elipses) icon, then select Tree Settings.
- Export the tree: Scroll to the “Manage your tree” section and click Export tree.
- Generate the GEDCOM file: Click Export to begin the process.
- Download: Once the file is ready, click Download Your GEDCOM File.
- Save the file to your device. The file will be named after your tree with a “.ged” extension and usually appears in your Downloads folder.
- Send the file to us: Email the GEDCOM file to us as an attachment to support@rootweavers.com
My Heritage
- Log in to your MyHeritage account.
- Navigate to your tree: Hover over “Family Tree” in the top menu and select Manage Trees.
- Select your tree: Locate the tree you’d like to download.
- Export to GEDCOM: Click Export to GEDCOM next to the tree’s name.
- Choose export options: You’ll have the option to include photos—select your preference.
- Begin the export: Click Begin the export to start the process.
- Download: Once complete, the GEDCOM file will be downloaded to your device.
- Send the file to us: Email the GEDCOM file to us as an attachment to support@rootweavers.com
